Product Overview

The Barr IPDS Converter's architecture is centered around a modular design, facilitating efficient IPDS data conversion. The IPDS Input Module is responsible for receiving the IPDS data stream, which can originate from various mainframe systems. This module validates the incoming data and prepares it for conversion.

The Conversion Engine is the core of the system, translating the IPDS data into either PostScript or PCL formats. This engine utilizes a set of rules and algorithms to accurately render the IPDS data, including fonts, graphics, and formatting. The Output Module then transmits the converted data to the target printer via TCP/IP.

The Configuration Manager provides a central point for managing the entire process. It allows administrators to configure printer settings, define output formats, and manage font mappings. The product does not expose a REST API.

However, it can be integrated through command-line scripting. For example, a batch script can be created to call the converter with specific parameters. The product supports standard network protocols for communication.

The product integrates with the Windows security model, leveraging existing user authentication mechanisms. The product provides logging capabilities to track printing activities and potential issues. Compared to other solutions, Barr IPDS Converter offers a streamlined approach to IPDS conversion, focusing on ease of use and compatibility with a wide range of printers.

The product's command structure involves specifying the input IPDS file, the desired output format, and the target printer. For example, a command might specify the input file path, the output format, and the printer's network address. The product's logging capabilities provide detailed information for monitoring and troubleshooting.
