The BookMaster architecture comprises several key components. The central component is the BookMaster processor, which reads and interprets formatting tags embedded in the document source files. These tags control text formatting, layout, and the generation of elements like tables and indexes.
Configuration files define document styles, fonts, and output formats. The system uses file-based storage for documents and configuration data. Communication between components occurs through file I/O and system calls within the z/OS or z/VM environment.
There are no specific network requirements or exposed ports. Security relies on the underlying z/OS or z/VM security mechanisms, including user authentication and access control lists. Monitoring and logging are handled through system-level facilities, such as SMF (System Management Facilities) records.
The system's design emphasizes batch processing, with documents processed sequentially. This contrasts with the real-time processing capabilities of many modern document processing systems.
