BOS-pack's architecture comprised three main components: the compression engine, the decompression engine, and the network interface. The compression engine intercepted 3270 data streams and applied compression algorithms to reduce their size. The decompression engine, located at the receiving end, restored the data to its original format.
The network interface handled the transmission and reception of compressed data over the network. The product used a proprietary compression algorithm. Configuration was managed through JCL and configuration files.
The product did not expose any APIs. The main configuration parameters included compression level, network addresses, and security settings. The product is no longer supported.
Alternative solutions may offer REST APIs for management and monitoring, and support for various programming languages and SDKs for integration. These solutions often provide more advanced compression algorithms and security features, such as encryption and access control.
