The tcAccess architecture comprised several key components. The tcAccess Server acted as the central point of contact, receiving requests from client applications and managing connections to mainframe data sources. The Administration Tool, a PC-based GUI, was used for configuring data sources, managing users, and monitoring the server.
Client applications communicated with the tcAccess Server using protocols such as TCP/IP, SNA, Websphere MQ, and HLLAPI. The server translated SQL queries into mainframe-compatible requests for databases like IMS, DB2, and VSAM. The API allowed non-mainframe applications to invoke mainframe transactions.
The Administration Tool used configuration files to store connection details and server settings. The system did not use a dedicated database for its internal operations. Network requirements included open ports for TCP/IP communication.
Compared to competitors, tcAccess provided a comprehensive solution for accessing a wide range of mainframe data sources, but it is no longer supported. Consider alternatives like Rocket Software UniData or Micro Focus Enterprise Server for similar functionality.
