The architecture of CA VISION:Report consists of several key components: the Report Definition Processor, Database Interface Modules, Output Formatting Engine, and the JCL Execution Environment. The Report Definition Processor parses the COBOL-like report definitions, validating syntax and generating an internal representation. Database Interface Modules handle communication with databases such as DB2, IMS, and CA IDMS, extracting data based on the SELECT statements.
The Output Formatting Engine formats the extracted data according to the PRINT statements, generating the final report output. Communication between components is primarily internal, with the JCL Execution Environment managing the overall job execution. Data storage relies on the underlying databases (DB2, IMS, CA IDMS) and VSAM files.
There are no specific network ports required, as communication occurs within the z/OS environment. Compared to other reporting tools, CA VISION:Report's architecture is tightly integrated with the z/OS environment, providing efficient access to mainframe data sources. The product does not offer a modern, distributed architecture.
