Product Overview

The architecture of CA Workload Automation AE is designed for scalability, reliability, and centralized control. The core components include the Scheduler, Agents, and a Database. The Scheduler is the central control point, responsible for managing job execution, scheduling, and monitoring.

It communicates with Agents via a proprietary protocol, typically over TCP/IP. Agents are deployed on target systems (Windows, UNIX, z/OS, z/VSE) and execute the jobs assigned by the Scheduler. The Database stores job definitions, schedules, historical data, and audit logs.

The Scheduler and Agents communicate using a secure, configurable port. The database can be a relational database such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server. The system supports high availability through redundant Schedulers and Agents.

Job dependencies are defined using various criteria, including time-based triggers, file dependencies, and condition-based triggers. The REST APIs provide a programmatic interface for interacting with the Scheduler, allowing for integration with other systems. ), role-based access control, and encryption of sensitive data.

The system provides comprehensive logging and auditing capabilities for compliance and troubleshooting. The command-line interface (CLI) and graphical user interface (GUI) provide administrative access for managing jobs, monitoring the system, and configuring settings. The CLI commands, such as `autojob`, `autorep`, and `autostatus`, are essential for job management and monitoring.

The GUI offers a visual representation of the workflows and job status.
