Product Overview

EZ-Synchro for IDMS employed a straightforward architecture centered around z/OS cross-memory services. The core components included a control task, which managed the synchronization process, and synchronization routines integrated into each job accessing the CA IDMS database. These routines communicated via cross-memory communication to ensure buffer consistency.

Configuration files defined synchronization parameters, specifying which CA IDMS buffers to synchronize and the synchronization intervals. There were no external APIs or network requirements, as the communication occurred within the z/OS environment. Security relied on the z/OS security features and the CA IDMS database security.

The product did not have its own user management or authentication. The product is no longer supported and has been merged into EZ-DB for IDMS. Migration to EZ-DB for IDMS is recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EZ-Synchro for IDMS?

EZ-Synchro for IDMS is a software product designed to synchronize CA IDMS buffers across multiple z/OS jobs. It facilitates data consistency and integrity in CA IDMS environments by utilizing z/OS cross-memory services. This ensures that updates made in one job are reflected in others, preventing data conflicts.

What is the current status of EZ-Synchro for IDMS?

EZ-Synchro for IDMS is no longer actively supported. Its functionality has been merged into EZ-DB for IDMS. Users should migrate to EZ-DB for IDMS to maintain compatibility and receive ongoing support and updates.

What problem did EZ-Synchro for IDMS solve?

EZ-Synchro for IDMS was designed to improve data consistency and reduce contention in CA IDMS environments. It provided a mechanism to keep buffers synchronized across different jobs, which was crucial for applications accessing the same data concurrently. This synchronization helped maintain data integrity and improve overall system performance.

What were the typical use cases for EZ-Synchro for IDMS?

EZ-Synchro for IDMS was primarily used in environments where multiple z/OS jobs accessed the same CA IDMS databases concurrently. Common use cases included online transaction processing (OLTP) systems, batch processing jobs, and any scenario where data consistency across jobs was critical. It was particularly beneficial in high-volume, multi-user environments.
