Product Overview

The architecture of DEMI/DB is centered around three main components: the Export Utility, the Import Utility, and the Control File Processor. These components work together to provide a robust solution for exporting and importing CA IDMS databases on z/OS. The Export Utility is responsible for extracting data from the CA IDMS database.

It reads data from the database and writes it to sequential files. The Import Utility is responsible for loading data into the CA IDMS database. It reads data from the sequential files and writes it to the target CA IDMS database.

The Control File Processor manages the configuration and execution parameters for both the Export and Import Utilities. It handles the JCL control cards and any necessary setup for the utilities. The Export and Import Utilities communicate with the CA IDMS database through native interfaces, leveraging the database's internal APIs for data access.

The Control File Processor coordinates the execution of the utilities, ensuring that the correct parameters are used and that the data transfer is performed efficiently. DEMI/DB uses sequential files for data storage during export and import operations. These files are managed by the z/OS operating system.

The sequential files are created with appropriate record formats and lengths to ensure data integrity during the transfer process. The utilities do not have external network requirements or specific port dependencies. Communication with the CA IDMS database occurs through native interfaces.

Administration is performed through JCL scripts and the CA IDMS database administration tools. User management is handled through the z/OS security system and the CA IDMS database security features. Monitoring and logging are managed through the z/OS system logs and the CA IDMS database logging facilities.
