The Dynaprint/MVS architecture comprises several key components: the Dynaprint/MVS core engine, the CICS interface, the formatting module, and the print spooler interface. The core engine is the central processing unit, responsible for managing the print jobs. The CICS interface handles the interaction with CICS applications, intercepting the data streams intended for 3270 terminals.
The formatting module processes the data streams, converting them into a format suitable for printing. The print spooler interface submits the formatted output to the z/OS print spooler (JES2/JES3). Communication between these components occurs internally.
The CICS interface uses SNA/LU2 to communicate with CICS. Configuration is managed through JCL and configuration datasets, which define printer characteristics, formatting options, and CICS integration parameters. The system uses the z/OS print spooler for queuing and scheduling print jobs.
Security is provided by the z/OS security system, using ACLs to control access to printers and print jobs. The system integrates with the z/OS logging and auditing facilities for comprehensive monitoring. There are no external APIs.
