Product Overview

The OMEGAMON for IMS architecture comprises several key components: the OMEGAMON agent, the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server (TEMS), the OMEGAMON user interface, and the IMS Connect component. The OMEGAMON agent resides on the z/OS system and collects performance data from IMS subsystems. It communicates with the TEMS using TCP/IP.

The TEMS acts as a central repository for the collected data and provides a platform for data aggregation, analysis, and alerting. The OMEGAMON user interface, accessible via ISPF or a web-based console, provides a graphical view of the performance data. The IMS Connect component enables the monitoring of IMS Connect traffic.

The agent uses internal APIs to gather data from IMS. The communication between the agent and TEMS uses a proprietary protocol. The agent also interacts with the z/OS operating system to gather system-level metrics.

The database used for storing historical data is DB2. The product requires specific ports for communication between the agent and TEMS. The configuration files define the monitoring parameters, thresholds, and alert settings.

The product supports authentication via RACF and provides role-based access control. Compared to other IMS monitoring tools, OMEGAMON for IMS offers deeper integration with the IBM ecosystem and more extensive historical data analysis capabilities.
