Product Overview

The architecture of IMS Batch Terminal Simulator (BTS) is centered around simulating 3270 terminal interactions within a batch processing environment. The main components include the BTS Control Program, the Input Processor, the Output Processor, and the Terminal Simulation module. The BTS Control Program manages the overall execution of the simulation, coordinating the activities of the other components.

The Input Processor handles the input data, which mimics the data entered by a user at a 3270 terminal. The Output Processor captures and processes the output from the IMS application program. The Terminal Simulation module simulates the behavior of a 3270 terminal, including screen formatting and command processing.

These components communicate through internal interfaces and data structures. BTS uses configuration files to define terminal characteristics, transaction definitions, and test scenarios. The primary communication protocol is 3270.

BTS integrates with the z/OS environment through JCL, which is used to submit the batch jobs that run the simulations. User management is handled through the z/OS security infrastructure, such as RACF. The logging capabilities provide detailed information for auditing and debugging purposes.

BTS does not expose any specific APIs. The architecture is designed to provide a controlled and repeatable testing environment for IMS applications.
