Product Overview

The architecture of IMS Buffer Pool Analyzer (BPA) is centered around three primary components: the Data Collector, the Analysis Engine, and the Reporting Module. The Data Collector is responsible for gathering performance data from IMS control blocks and log records. This component accesses IMS system data through JCL jobs.

The Analysis Engine processes the collected data, calculating key performance metrics such as buffer pool hit ratios, I/O rates, and buffer pool utilization. This component uses algorithms to identify performance bottlenecks and inefficiencies. The Reporting Module generates reports that provide insights into buffer pool activity.

Reports can be generated in various formats, including CSV and PDF. The communication between these components is primarily through data files and JCL job steps. The Data Collector writes data to intermediate files, which are then read by the Analysis Engine.

The Analysis Engine processes the data and generates output files that are used by the Reporting Module. IMS BPA does not use any specific databases or storage mechanisms beyond the z/OS file system for storing intermediate and output files. There are no specific network requirements for IMS BPA as it runs on z/OS and accesses data locally.

The tool relies on z/OS security for access control. The primary interface is through JCL jobs.
