The architecture of IMS Fast Reorganization Reload (FRR) comprised several key components designed to optimize the database reorganization process. The main components included the UNLOAD, REORG, and RELOAD phases. The UNLOAD phase extracted data from the IMS database, typically using a high-speed data extraction method.
The REORG phase sorted and restructured the extracted data based on the reorganization criteria defined in the control cards. This phase often involved sorting and indexing operations to optimize data access. The RELOAD phase loaded the reorganized data back into the IMS database.
Communication between these components occurred through z/OS datasets and control card specifications. The product utilized VSAM for data storage. There were no specific network requirements, as the operations were performed within the z/OS environment.
The configuration was managed through control cards, which defined database structures, data set names, and processing options. FRR has been replaced by the FRR feature in IMS System Utilities and Database Tools.
