Product Overview

The architecture of IMS Program Restart Facility (PRF) is centered around three main components: the PRF Controller, the Restart Manager, and the Log Analyzer. The PRF Controller is the central component, responsible for managing the overall restart process. It monitors IMS logs and detects program abends.

The Restart Manager handles the actual restart of the abended IMS batch or BMP program. It ensures that the program restarts from the correct checkpoint and uses the appropriate logs. The Log Analyzer processes IMS logs to determine the state of the program at the time of the abend and to ensure data integrity during the restart.

Communication between these components occurs through z/OS system services and shared datasets. PRF interacts with IMS through the IMS control region and by monitoring IMS logs. Configuration involves setting up the PRF control file, which contains parameters for program restart, and defining program restart parameters in datasets.

PRF does not expose any APIs. Security is managed through z/OS security features, including authentication and access control. Audit logging is provided to track PRF operations.

The system does not have any direct APIs. The architecture is designed for high availability and minimal impact on IMS performance. The main configuration files are the PRF control file and program definition datasets.
