The architecture of InfoSphere Information Server is based on a multi-tiered design, comprising client tiers, application tiers, and the database tier. The client tier includes tools like DataStage Designer and QualityStage, used for job design and data quality rule creation. The application tier consists of the Information Server Engine, Metadata Repository, and various services.
The Information Server Engine is responsible for job execution and data transformation. The Metadata Repository stores metadata about jobs, data sources, and data quality rules. Communication between components uses HTTP and proprietary protocols.
The database tier hosts the metadata repository, which can be DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server. The platform supports a service-oriented architecture (SOA), allowing for flexible integration with other systems. DataStage jobs are designed using a graphical interface and compiled into executable code.
QualityStage uses a rule-based approach for data profiling, cleansing, and matching. The platform's modular design allows for scalability and high availability. Security is implemented through LDAP authentication, RBAC, and encryption of data in transit and at rest.
The platform's architecture supports a comprehensive data integration and data quality solution.
