JES Queue for Printers (JQP) architecture comprises several key components. The Print Server is the core component, responsible for receiving print jobs from the JES spool, routing them to the appropriate printers, and managing the print queues. The Spool Interface provides the connection to the JES spool, retrieving print jobs and interacting with JES control blocks.
Printer Definitions are stored in configuration files, specifying printer IP addresses, port numbers, and supported protocols (TCP/IP or VTAM). The system uses TCP/IP sockets and VTAM sessions for communication with printers. The Print Server and Spool Interface communicate via internal z/OS mechanisms.
JQP supports various print protocols, including LPR and direct TCP/IP printing. Security is integrated through z/OS security features, including authentication and access control. Monitoring and logging are provided through SMF records and JQP-specific logs.
Compared to other solutions, JQP offers direct integration with JES and z/OS, providing a streamlined printing solution. The configuration files are crucial for defining printers and their characteristics.
