Product Overview

The architecture of Oracle Database on z/OS includes several key components. The System Global Area (SGA) is a shared memory region that stores database buffers and control information. The Program Global Area (PGA) is a memory region dedicated to each database process.

Background processes such as PMON (process monitor), SMON (system monitor), and DBWR (database writer) perform essential database tasks. These components communicate through shared memory and inter-process communication mechanisms. The database uses data files to store persistent data.

ora` file and dynamically using `ALTER SYSTEM` commands. Security is enforced through role-based access control (RBAC), supporting granular permissions. Data encryption is supported using AES and 3DES algorithms.

The precompilers (Pro*C, Pro*COBOL, Pro*PL/I) allow direct embedding of SQL within application code.
