Product Overview

PlexSpy's architecture is designed for scalability and high availability, comprising three main components: the Data Collector, the Web Server, and the Database. The Data Collector, deployed within the CICS regions, utilizes CICS APIs to gather real-time performance data. This component monitors transactions, programs, files, and other critical resources.

The Web Server, a Java-based application, acts as the central point of interaction, providing a web-based user interface and REST API endpoints. The Web Server communicates with the Data Collector to retrieve real-time data and with the Database to store and retrieve historical data. The Database, typically a relational database such as DB2, stores performance metrics, logs, and configuration data.

Communication between the Data Collector and the Web Server occurs over TCP/IP, using a proprietary protocol for data transfer. The REST API provides endpoints for various operations, including retrieving application status (`/status`), performance metrics (`/metrics`), and log data (`/logs`). The API supports both GET and POST methods for data retrieval and management.

The system supports RBAC with role-based permissions, allowing administrators to control user access to specific features and data. The configuration is managed through configuration files and the web interface. Compared to Compuware Strobe, PlexSpy offers a more focused approach to CICS monitoring, providing real-time insights and a user-friendly interface.
