Product Overview

The architecture of Transaction Analysis Workbench for z/OS (TAW) is centered around the ISPF interface, which serves as the primary point of interaction for users. The main components include the ISPF interface, log data collectors, analysis engines, and reporting modules. The ISPF interface provides the user interface for selecting logs, defining filters, and generating reports.

Log data collectors gather data from various sources, including IMS logs, CICS logs, z/OS SMF data, and IBM MQ log extracts. The analysis engines process the collected data, applying filters and performing calculations to identify performance bottlenecks and transaction flows. Reporting modules generate reports and visualizations based on the analyzed data.

Communication between components occurs through z/OS system services and data sets. The ISPF interface interacts with the log data collectors and analysis engines to retrieve and process data. The analysis engines store intermediate results in z/OS data sets.

TAW uses z/OS data sets for storing log data and configuration information. It does not rely on external databases. TAW leverages the z/OS security model, typically using role-based access control (RBAC) through security products like RACF.

Access to TAW resources is governed by user roles and permissions defined within the z/OS security system. TAW's ability to analyze transactions across CICS, IMS, and Db2 environments, coupled with its log forwarding capabilities to external tools, differentiates it from some competitors.
