ODDS

The ODDS architecture comprises several key components designed for comprehensive z/OS automation. The Event Monitor is responsible for capturing z/OS messages and events, acting as the primary input source. The Rule Engine processes these events against a set of user-defined rules, determining the appropriate actions.

The Automation Engine executes these actions, which can include starting or stopping tasks, sending commands, or interacting with VTAM applications. The VTAM Interface provides the functionality to automatically log on to and interact with VTAM applications such as CICS and IMS. The System i Interface facilitates communication and data exchange with System i (AS/400) systems using TCP/IP.

Configuration is managed through the AutoRule facility, which provides a panel-driven interface for defining rules and automation parameters. Security is integrated through the z/OS security system (RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret), ensuring only authorized users can access and manage the system. Audit logging is comprehensive, capturing all actions and events for security and compliance purposes.

The communication between components is primarily internal, leveraging z/OS system services for efficiency and reliability. The storage mechanisms used are primarily z/OS datasets for configuration files and logs.
