The TAPE2000 architecture comprises several key components: the Command Processor, the Media Manager, the Reporting Engine, and the Security Manager. The Command Processor is the primary interface for user interaction, accepting commands via the CLI. The Media Manager maintains a database of tape volumes, their locations, and their status.
The Reporting Engine generates reports on tape usage, performance, and capacity. The Security Manager handles authentication, authorization, and auditing functions. Communication between components occurs through internal messaging and system calls.
The system uses a relational database, such as DB2, to store metadata about tapes, volumes, and their contents. The database stores information about tape volumes, including volume serial numbers, creation dates, and current status. The system requires network connectivity for communication between the mainframe and any attached tape libraries.
The API provides programmatic access to tape management functions, with methods such as `MOUNT_TAPE`, `UNLOAD_TAPE`, `GET_TAPE_STATUS`, and `SCRATCH_TAPE`. TAPE2000 supports RBAC with role-based permissions. Data encryption is used during transit and at rest.
Compared to CA 1, TAPE2000 offers more robust virtual tape support and enhanced reporting capabilities.
