Product Overview
The architecture of Virtel Screen Redesigner is centered around three main components: the Screen Definition Editor, the HTML/JavaScript Code Generator, and the 3270 Screen Parser. The Screen Definition Editor provides a graphical interface for developers to define and map 3270 screens. This component allows users to identify fields, define their properties, and create a visual representation of the screen layout.
The HTML/JavaScript Code Generator takes the screen definitions and automatically produces the corresponding HTML and JavaScript code. This generated code is designed to replicate the functionality and appearance of the original 3270 screens within a web browser. The 3270 Screen Parser is responsible for analyzing the 3270 data streams received from the mainframe.
It interprets the data, identifies fields, and ensures that the web-based interface accurately reflects the information displayed on the 3270 screen. Communication between these components is primarily internal, with the Screen Definition Editor providing input to the Code Generator. The generated HTML and JavaScript then interact with the Virtel Web Server, which handles the communication with the mainframe using HTTP/HTTPS.
The Virtel Web Server also manages security, including authentication and encryption. The system does not expose APIs directly, but relies on the Virtel Web Server for security and configuration. The tool supports z/OS, z/VM, and zVSE/VSEn platforms.
The main components include the Screen Definition Editor, the HTML/JavaScript Code Generator, and the 3270 Screen Parser. These components work together to analyze 3270 screens and generate corresponding web-based interfaces. The tool's focus is on ease of use and integration with the Virtel Web Server, providing a streamlined approach for mainframe application modernization.
