The architecture of VisiTrac is centered around a three-tier design. The first tier is the Windows-based GUI, providing the user interface. This component handles user interaction, displays job status information, and allows users to submit and manage jobs.
The second tier is the communication layer, responsible for handling the communication between the GUI and the z/OS backend. This layer uses TCP/IP for network communication and implements the necessary protocols for API calls and data transfer. The third tier comprises the z/OS backend components.
These components interact with the z/OS system to retrieve job information, submit jobs, and manage batch processes. The GUI communicates with the z/OS backend through a defined set of APIs. , `/cancelJob`).
The communication layer handles the translation between the GUI's requests and the z/OS API calls. Data storage within VisiTrac is primarily handled by the z/OS system itself, with the GUI caching some data for performance. Network requirements include TCP/IP connectivity between the Windows machine and the z/OS system.
Ports used for communication are configurable. The system supports authentication via z/OS user credentials and leverages the z/OS access control model. Audit logging is provided to track user actions and system events.
Compared to competitors, VisiTrac's architecture emphasizes a streamlined GUI experience and efficient communication with the z/OS backend.
