The architecture of BMC AMI Storage FDRDRP is designed for high-performance backup and restore operations on z/OS. The main components include the FDRDRP Backup/Restore Engine, the Control File Manager, and the Logging and Reporting Module. The FDRDRP Backup/Restore Engine is the core of the system, responsible for managing the backup and restore processes.
It handles data transfer, parallel processing, and interaction with the z/OS operating system. The Control File Manager is responsible for managing the configuration settings for backup and restore operations. It reads and processes the control file, which defines backup parameters, data set selection criteria, and other operational settings.
The Logging and Reporting Module provides detailed logs and reports for auditing and monitoring. It captures information about all backup and restore operations, including errors, warnings, and performance metrics. Communication between components occurs through z/OS system services and standard I/O channels.
Data is stored on DASD volumes. The product uses a command-line interface (CLI) for all operations. The CLI commands include `FDRDRP BACKUP`, `FDRDRP RESTORE`, `FDRDRP LIST`, and `FDRDRP MODIFY`.
The control file is a key configuration interface, allowing administrators to define backup strategies and operational parameters. The product integrates with existing z/OS storage environments, utilizing standard I/O channels for data transfer. It supports standard z/OS security features, including RACF integration for access control.
The product does not expose any REST or SOAP APIs. Integration is achieved through JCL and system utilities. The product uses standard z/OS protocols for data transfer.
