Product Overview

The Db2 Change Accumulation Tool, now unsupported, employed a straightforward architecture to facilitate faster database recovery. The main components included: 1. **Image Copy Reader:** This component read the existing Db2 image copy from storage.

2. **Log Application Engine:** This engine applied the Db2 logs to the image copy, updating it to a more current state. 3.

**Image Copy Writer:** This component wrote the updated image copy back to storage. These components communicated through the z/OS operating system. The process began with the Image Copy Reader accessing the input image copy dataset.

The Log Application Engine then processed the Db2 logs, applying the changes to the image copy. The specific log ranges and other parameters were defined in configuration files. The updated image copy was then written to the output dataset by the Image Copy Writer.

The tool did not expose any APIs. The tool relied on the z/OS security model for authentication and access control. The tool is no longer supported by IBM.

Consider IBM Db2 Recovery Expert for a supported solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of the Db2 Change Accumulation Tool?

The Db2 Change Accumulation Tool was designed to reduce database recovery time by applying logs to image copies. This process creates up-to-date image copies, which can then be used for faster recovery operations. This tool is no longer supported by IBM.

How does the Db2 Change Accumulation Tool work?

The tool works by applying Db2 logs to a previous image copy. This process ensures that the image copy is as current as possible, reducing the time needed for recovery. The tool is no longer supported by IBM.

What platforms does the Db2 Change Accumulation Tool support?

The Db2 Change Accumulation Tool is designed to work with Db2 databases on the z/OS platform. It is not supported on other platforms. IBM support for this tool ended in 2020.

What is a typical use case for the Db2 Change Accumulation Tool?

The tool's primary use case was to create up-to-date image copies for faster database recovery. It was particularly useful in environments where minimizing downtime was critical. IBM support for this tool ended in 2020.
