E6

The E6 architecture is composed of three main components: the Communication Manager, the Translation Engine, and the File Transfer Agent. The Communication Manager handles network communication using the TIP protocol. It manages connections, handles session establishment, and ensures reliable data transfer.

The Translation Engine is responsible for converting data between different formats, such as EDIFACT and XML. It uses configuration files to define translation rules and map data elements. The File Transfer Agent manages the actual file transfers, including sending and receiving files, and monitoring transfer status.

Communication between components is primarily internal, using z/OS system services. E6 uses configuration files stored on the z/OS system to define partner profiles, communication parameters, and data translation rules. The system does not use a database for core operations, relying on file-based storage for configuration and audit logs.

Network requirements include access to the GXS TCP/IP network via the TIP protocol, typically using port 8000. The CLI provides administrative access, including user management, configuration, and monitoring. Security features include user authentication via user IDs/passwords and digital certificates, and encryption during transit.

Audit logs track all file transfer activities.
