IMS High Performance Unload

The architecture of IMS High Performance Unload (HPU) comprises several key components designed for efficient IMS database unloading on z/OS. The core component is the Unload Engine, responsible for extracting data from the IMS databases. This engine utilizes optimized algorithms for high-speed data retrieval.

The Output Processor formats the extracted data into the specified output format, such as sequential datasets or partitioned datasets. HPU uses JCL for job submission and control statements for configuration. The communication between components occurs through internal interfaces within the z/OS environment.

HPU interacts with the IMS control region to access database data. Data is stored in various formats, including sequential datasets and partitioned datasets, as specified in the JCL. HPU does not have specific port requirements.

Security is managed through z/OS security features, including RACF or equivalent. Audit logging is available through SMF records, providing detailed information about HPU operations. HPU offers options for parallel processing, allowing multiple tasks to run concurrently, further improving performance.

Compared to standard IMS utilities, HPU provides significant performance gains. HPU does not expose APIs.
