The architecture of Mainstar ABARS Manager comprised several key components. The ABARS Manager itself served as the central control point, coordinating backup and restore operations. The DFSMShsm interface facilitated communication with the underlying DFSMShsm system, enabling the execution of ABARS functions.
The data storage subsystem handled the storage and retrieval of backup data. Communication between these components occurred through z/OS system calls and interfaces. The CLI was the primary administrative interface, allowing users to manage backups, restores, and monitor job status.
Configuration was managed through control files, defining backup policies, storage locations, and retention periods. The product did not expose any APIs. Security relied on z/OS security features for authentication and access control.
Monitoring and logging were available through system logs and reports. The product's primary function was to streamline ABARS operations, but it is no longer supported. Alternative solutions offer more robust API integrations and modern features.
