The architecture of MaxBack/VM consists of three primary components: the Backup Manager, the Restore Agent, and the Scheduler. The Backup Manager is responsible for initiating and managing backup operations. It interacts with the z/VM CP and CMS file system to read data from the specified files or minidisks.
The Restore Agent handles the restoration of data from backup sets. It retrieves data from the storage media and writes it back to the target location. The Scheduler is responsible for automating backup tasks based on predefined schedules.
It uses the SCHEDULE command to define backup jobs, including frequency and time. Communication between these components is primarily handled through z/VM's internal mechanisms and file system interfaces. Data is stored on storage devices accessible from z/VM, such as minidisks, tape drives, and virtual tape libraries (VTLs).
The product leverages z/VM's I/O capabilities for efficient data transfer and storage. Security is provided through access controls and audit logging.
