Share Your ExperienceOperational Decision Manager for z/OS
Product Overview
The architecture of ODM for z/OS comprises several key components. Decision Center is the central repository for storing and managing business rules, policies, and events. Decision Server provides the runtime environment for executing these rules and processing events.
Within Decision Server, zRule Execution Server is specifically designed for executing rules within COBOL applications, while Rule Execution Server executes rules for SOA and Java applications. These components communicate primarily through WebSphere Application Server, which provides the runtime environment and manages communication between the components. DB2 databases are used for storing rule metadata, user data, and other configuration information.
The Decision Center console and Rule Execution Server console are web-based interfaces that interact with the underlying components. REST and SOAP APIs provide integration points for external applications. For example, a Java application can use the REST API to execute a ruleset deployed on the Rule Execution Server.
Network requirements include connectivity between the components and access to the DB2 databases. Ports used depend on the specific configuration of WebSphere Application Server and DB2. Security is implemented through authentication, authorization, and encryption.
The RBAC model controls access to resources. Data encryption is used to protect sensitive information stored in DB2 databases and during communication. Monitoring and logging capabilities are provided through the Rule Execution Server console and WebSphere Application Server logs.
