The architecture of Partitioned Database Facility for IMS (PDF-IMS) centers around several key components. The Partition Manager is responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining database partitions. The Data Access Module intercepts and processes data requests, directing them to the appropriate partition.
The Control Module provides the interface for administrative tasks and configuration. PDF-IMS utilizes standard IMS database structures and integrates seamlessly with existing IMS systems. Data is stored within the defined partitions, which can reside on various storage mechanisms supported by z/OS.
Communication between components is managed internally, with no specific external ports required beyond those used by IMS. Configuration involves defining partition parameters, mapping logical databases to physical partitions, and setting up logging and monitoring. PDF-IMS offers an alternative to IMS HALDB databases.
