Product Overview

The architecture of Performance Toolkit for VM (PTK/VM) is centered around three main components: the Data Collector, the Report Generator, and the Display Interface. The Data Collector is responsible for gathering performance metrics from the z/VM system. It uses various internal interfaces to collect data on CPU usage, memory allocation, I/O operations, and other system resources.

The Report Generator processes the collected data, formats it into reports, and provides various options for data aggregation and presentation. The Display Interface provides a user-friendly way to view real-time and historical performance data. Communication between these components is primarily internal, using z/VM's system services and file system.

Data is stored in the z/VM file system, and configuration parameters are stored in configuration files. The COLLECT command initiates data collection, and the REPORT command generates reports based on the collected data. Security is handled through z/VM's access control mechanisms, which rely on user IDs and associated privileges.
