Rocket Tracer

The architecture of Rocket Tracer is designed to efficiently extract, process, and report on data from CA IDMS journals. The main components include the Data Extractor, the Report Generator, and the User Interface. The Data Extractor is responsible for retrieving data from the IDMS journals.

It uses native APIs to interface with the IDMS database, ensuring direct and efficient data access. The Report Generator processes the extracted data based on user-defined configurations. These configurations specify the data fields to include, the report layout, and the output format.

Supported output formats include CSV, PDF, and others. The User Interface provides a command-line interface (CLI) for managing the tool, configuring reports, and accessing generated reports. Communication between components occurs primarily through z/OS file systems and TCP/IP for network interactions.

Data storage utilizes z/OS file systems for storing extracted data and report configurations. The tool's configuration is managed through configuration files, which define data sources, report layouts, and security settings. Compared to generic reporting tools, Rocket Tracer offers specialized features for CA IDMS, such as direct access to journal data and IDMS-specific metrics.

The tool's design prioritizes performance and scalability to handle large volumes of data and complex reporting requirements.
