VitalSigns for VM

The architecture of VitalSigns for VM comprises three main components: the Monitor Agent, the Data Collector, and the Reporting Engine. The Monitor Agent resides on the z/VM system and collects real-time performance data. It communicates with the Data Collector via TCP/IP, secured by SSL/TLS.

The Data Collector stores the collected data and provides historical analysis capabilities. The Reporting Engine provides a user interface for viewing real-time data, generating reports, and configuring the system. CONFIG file is central to the configuration, allowing administrators to define data collection intervals, threshold settings for alerts, and reporting options.

SEEKMISER/ESA, integrated within the system, optimizes DASD performance. Authentication is handled through z/VM's security infrastructure, with role-based access control (RBAC). The system supports detailed audit logging, tracking user actions and system events.

The 'VS DISPLAY' command provides real-time data, while 'VS REPORT' generates detailed reports. The system is designed for high availability and scalability, ensuring continuous monitoring and data collection. The API, though proprietary, allows for integration with other systems.

The system's design prioritizes efficient data collection and processing, minimizing overhead on the z/VM system.
