The architecture of zIIP Enabler for Natural is designed to transparently offload eligible Natural batch workloads to zIIP processors. The main components include the zIIP Enabler runtime module, configuration files, and monitoring tools. The zIIP Enabler runtime module integrates with the Natural runtime environment, intercepting batch job execution.
Configuration files, typically datasets, define the criteria for zIIP eligibility, such as program names, resource usage thresholds, and other parameters. The monitoring tools provide detailed information on zIIP utilization, CPU savings, and performance metrics. The runtime module uses z/OS system services to identify and offload eligible workloads.
Communication between components occurs through standard z/OS interfaces. The product does not use any external databases or storage mechanisms beyond standard z/OS facilities. The primary administrative interface is through z/OS system commands and configuration file updates.
Security is managed through standard z/OS security mechanisms, including RACF or equivalent. The product's design minimizes impact on existing Natural applications, ensuring a smooth transition and efficient operation. The system's design focuses on transparent operation and minimal overhead.
