Product Overview

The DataSniff architecture consists of three main components: the DataSniff Client, the DataSniff Server, and the Data Connector modules. The DataSniff Client is a Windows-based application that provides the user interface for configuring data sources, defining scan parameters, initiating scans, and viewing reports. The DataSniff Server is responsible for handling data access, processing, and security.

It receives requests from the DataSniff Client, interacts with the Data Connector modules to access data sources, and performs data analysis. The Data Connector modules are specialized components that interface with specific data sources, such as IMS, DB2, IAM, VSAM, QSAM, Oracle Database, and Microsoft SQL Server. These modules use native protocols to communicate with the data sources.

Communication between the DataSniff Client and the DataSniff Server occurs over TCP/IP. The DataSniff Server uses Windows Integrated Authentication and username/password authentication for user authentication. The system uses an access control model based on user roles and permissions.

Encryption is used to secure data in transit between the client and server. The DataSniff Server stores configuration data and scan results in a local database. The DataSniff Client provides a GUI for administrative tasks, including user management, configuration of data sources, and monitoring of system performance.

DataSniff's architecture is designed for scalability and can be deployed in various environments to meet the needs of different organizations. The DataSniff Server can be deployed on a dedicated server or virtual machine to optimize performance and security.
