Product Overview

The architecture of Test Coverage Tools comprises three main components: the Code Instrumentation Engine, the Test Execution Tracker, and the Coverage Reporting Module. The Code Instrumentation Engine is responsible for modifying the source code to include instrumentation. This process involves inserting probes into the code to track execution paths.

The Test Execution Tracker monitors the execution of the instrumented code during testing. It records which parts of the code are executed and the order in which they are executed. The Coverage Reporting Module generates detailed coverage reports based on the data collected by the Test Execution Tracker.

These reports highlight which lines of code were executed, which were not, and the overall coverage percentage. The tool supports C/C++ and COBOL on z/OS, z/VM, and zVSE/VSEn platforms. The tool uses configuration files to specify source code locations, test execution parameters, and reporting options.

The tool may expose APIs for integration with build systems and test automation frameworks. The tool may support an access control model such as Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). The tool provides audit and logging capabilities to track user actions and system events.

The tool's primary function is to track which parts of a program are executed during test execution, helping to detect little or unused source code segments. The tool integrates into the software development lifecycle by providing insights into code coverage during the testing phase.
