Product Overview

The architecture of Tivoli Storage Manager S/390 Edition was based on a client-server model. The main components included the Tivoli Storage Manager server, client agents, and storage devices. The server managed storage pools, backup schedules, and client communication.

Clients, running on z/OS and z/VM, communicated with the server over TCP/IP. The server used a proprietary API for client-server communication. Data was stored on tape and disk devices.

The product supported HFS and zFS file systems within z/OS USS. The CLI was the primary administrative interface. Authentication was handled through user IDs and passwords.

Data encryption was available. Audit logging tracked user activities and system events. The product is not supported.

Consider migrating to IBM Spectrum Protect. The key difference from competitors was its specific focus on mainframe environments.
