The architecture of Debug for z/OS comprises several key components: the Debug Engine, the Debug Manager, and the User Interface. The Debug Engine is responsible for controlling the execution of the debugged program. It interacts directly with the z/OS operating system to manage breakpoints, step through code, and inspect variables.
The Debug Manager handles session management, coordinating communication between the User Interface and the Debug Engine. It manages the state of the debugging session and facilitates the transfer of data and commands. The User Interface provides the means for users to interact with the debugger.
It allows users to set breakpoints, view variable values, and control program flow. The communication between these components is primarily through z/OS system services and internal interfaces. Debug for z/OS does not use external databases for its core functionality.
It relies on the z/OS environment for storage and access to program data. Network requirements are minimal, as the tool primarily operates within the z/OS environment. The tool does not expose REST APIs.
It supports authentication through RACF and other z/OS security mechanisms.
