Product Overview

The architecture of IMS Connect consists of several key components. The IMS Connect address space manages the overall operation, including initialization and shutdown. The TCP/IP listener handles incoming connection requests from external applications.

The data store manages the flow of data between IMS Connect and IMS. Communication occurs over TCP/IP sockets, with the configuration defined in the HWSCFGxx file. The IMS Connect API provides the interface for external applications to interact with IMS.

Authentication is handled through RACF, ensuring only authorized users can access IMS resources. Logging and auditing capabilities are available for monitoring and troubleshooting. For example, the TCP/IP listener listens on a specified port, and the data store handles data conversion and formatting.

Since IMS Connect is no longer supported, consider migrating to IBM MQ or IBM z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition for a supported architecture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of IMS Connect?

IMS Connect enables TCP/IP connectivity for IMS transactions and databases. It allows external applications to issue IMS commands and access IMS resources. This facilitates integration with various systems and applications.

Is IMS Connect a separate product or part of IMS?

IMS Connect is included as part of the base IMS product. It provides the necessary components and interfaces for TCP/IP communication. No separate installation is required.

How does IMS Connect enable external applications to interact with IMS?

IMS Connect facilitates communication between IMS and external applications using TCP/IP. It acts as a gateway, translating between TCP/IP protocols and IMS internal protocols. This enables external applications to interact with IMS resources.

What data formats does IMS Connect support?

IMS Connect supports various data formats, including text and binary. It handles the conversion and formatting of data between external applications and IMS. This ensures data compatibility and proper processing.
